Lucinda’s Botanical Prints
Soft botanical luxury for wearable art
Raven Handcrafted Designs is based on the idea of creating lasting pieces of slow fashion, combining Lucinda’s love of natural fibres, botanical printing and the Australian bush.
Growing up in small outback towns in the 1960s, Lucinda learnt the value of one special piece, whether it was a scarf, jumper or, most often, a much-loved poncho. That sense of care, practicality and beauty continues to inspire her work today.
Each Raven piece is created using natural fibres such as wool and silk, along with natural dyes including logwood, weld, madder, cochineal and tannins such as eucalyptus. The result is a collection of wearable artworks, each one shaped by time, nature and hand.
The process
The printing process begins with scouring and mordanting the fabric to prepare it for dyeing. Leaves and botanical materials are then carefully laid out in Lucinda’s chosen design before the piece is rolled around a pole and tied tightly.
From there, the fabric is boiled or steamed for between 90 minutes and four hours, allowing the botanicals and natural dyes to leave their unique impression. No two pieces are ever exactly the same.
Lucinda also shares her passion for botanical printing through creative workshops, inviting others to explore this unique and intuitive art form.
